Police have summoned Edith Byanyima, over alleged ‘sectarian’ accusations on Acholi people.

Byanyima,a sister to Oxfam boss also an auntie to Matthew Kanyamunyu, the prime suspect in the murder of social worker Kenneth Akena Watmon allegedly uttered out sectarian statements accusing Acholi soldiers to have killed Kanyamunyu’s father.

In a letter forwarded to Byanyima, the acting deputy director Special Investigations Division in Kireka,Henry Mugumya says he is investigating a case of promoting sectarianism and incitement to violence and that she is required to report to his office on Monday.

“Pursuant to Section 27A of the police Act, you are required to report to the Special Investigations Division Kireka on Monday, January 23, 2017 at 1000hrs, to assist in providing valuable information in respect to the matter being investigated. You will report to the AG. Deputy Director for further guidance,” letter partially reads.

Early this week through their family lawyer Ojok and Company Advocates, late Akena’s family wrote to the the Inspector General of Police, Gen Edward Kale Kayihura asking him to investigate on Byaniyima over her alleged media sectarian accusations on the people of Acholi.
