The speaker of Parliament, Rebecca Kadaga has directed reduction of MPs January salaries inorder to support Uganda Cranes which is going to feature in the forthcoming African Cup of Nations in Gabon.
The money will be raised through direct deductions from members’ salaries for the month of January.
Shs 500,000 will be deducted from each MP’s salary.
This development has been announced by the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga on the floor of parliament while presiding over parliament special seating today morning.
According to Chris Obore, Director of communication at parliament, majority of the MPs are in support of the development and more than shs 200 million will be raised.
Uganda Cranes needs shs 6 billion for facilitation as it takes part in the AFCON tournament but the government is still reluctant to contribute the required funding.
