The speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga has asked legislators to prepare for the consideration of prayers by the women activists regarding the composition of the electoral commission.
While Parliament was in recess, women activists under Uganda Women’s Network( UWONET) petitioned the speaker seeking the parliamentary intervation into the electoral body to allow more women in powerful positions as commissioners.
Kadaga while addressing the Parliament last evening asked members to prepare for the request.
“We noted that in the last term of the electoral commission only two women were commissioners and this time we need more women as commissioners in the coming electoral commission,” Kadaga said.
“Women activists say the outgoing commission was not considerate with objective number six of the principles of the state policies,” She added.
