A freshman member of parliament who was conned of Sh70 million to win an election petition in court is naïve, and should not cry foul, says Principal Judge Yorokamu Bamwine.

Bamwine who has no kind words for Sarah Wekomba, the Bulambuli District Woman MP, says it is unacceptable for a person of the MP to accept to offer a bribe to the judge, let alone, part with so much money in the name of winning a court case.

Justice Bamwine says it was ‘unhonorable’ on the part of the MP to participate in efforts to compromise the judge in her election petition.

Justice Bamwine wrote in a statement reacting to Ms Wekomba’s allegations, “An effective, corrupt free judiciary in its truest form, requires not only the ability of the judicial officers to desist from taking bribes, but also from the public not to offer bribes. It was the duty of the Member of Parliament to promote fairness in the legal process and she failed in that duty.”
