The inspector of courts Her Worship Immaculate Busingye has raised concern over overcrowded prison facilities that are likely to cause insecurity in prison facilities.

Busingye lamented today during the inspection of Mbarara High court and prisons of Kakiika and Mbarara central in mbarara district.

She said that the prisons there are overcrowded giving an example of Mbarara central prison which is supposed to host at least 301 inmates but crowded with over 1000 inmates , something she says that it puts the safety of the prison facilities and prisoners at risk.

Busigye added that statistics show that most of the inmates are waiting trial therefore judges and courts must work tirelessly so that some cases are disposed off and at least some of the inmates can be transferred to other prison facilities.
