Unlike regular ICT companies in Uganda interested in repatriation of profits to countries of origin, Huawei is one of a kind.

The Chinese telecom carrier maker has distinguished itself for giving back to Uganda in ways few companies have exhibited.

Huawei, is a leading global information and communication Technology (ICT) service provider founded in 1987 in China, but only in 2001 did it open up its services in Uganda.

Ever since it entered in Uganda, the tech firm has worked tirelessly to ensure that not only its customers are satisfied, but also the services it offers reach out to the common people.

In one way to fulfill this, Huawei has been giving back to Ugandans through engaging in several development projects or recreational activities such sports events like golf and MTN marathon. But also, Huawei has been instrumental in supporting the KCCA cultural festival every October.

In November 2015 ,the First Lady of Uganda, Janet Museveni applauded the company’s spirit of social responsibility and giving back to the community after handing over 40 desktop computers in order to boost administration and education services.

“We encourage other companies that do business in Uganda to have a component of social responsibility to show their good will to the people who contribute to their organization’s business growth“, Mrs Museveni said.

Huawei has over the years also donated computers to different schools and charity foundations to further the education sector’s E- learning efforts.

Recently, the firm donated $10,000 to the disadvantaged girls at Rehab Foundation in Wakiso.

Today, Huawei again opened its wallet, as one of the biggest sponsors of the MTN Marathon.
Since 2012, the initiative to run has provided for water for Northern Uganda and Karamoja respectively and in this year’s MTN Kampala marathon, Huawei has donated to MTN a wholesome of Shs 250 million to support the cause of schools sustainable sanitation in Kampala.

It has supported the Science and Technology innovations challenge in Makerere and also supported local talent through the UCC ACIA Awards.
And these are some of the projects.
Huawei, therefore exemplifies a spirit, corporate companies should have towards communities they operate in.
