Jinja High Court has declined an application by the state to transfer Rwenzururu king Charles Wesley Mumbere’ bail application hearing to the International Crimes Division of the High Court.
JUdge Eva Luswata agreed with the submissions of Mumbere’s defence lawyers led by city lawyer Caleb Alaka that the king is not bound by the rules of International Crimes Division of the High Court and can have his application heard before her court because the case is still at its early stages.
According to Luswata, the objection made by the state is overruled and bail application will be heard.
Mumbere was arrested last year in November following the Rwenzururu palace raid by the joint security operatives which left more than 100 people dead including police and army officers.
The king is being charged along with more than 150 royalists with 41 counts including aggravated robbery, murder, treason among others.
