Court has set 13 September, 2017 as a date for hearing a case in which city businessman Sudhir Ruparelia wants Bank of Uganda lawyers AF Mpanga and MMAKS Advocates to be removed from the legal battle due to conflict of interest.

Through his lawyers Kampala Associated Advocates, Sudhir filed an affidavit stating that lawyers David Mpanga of AF Mpanga and Masembe Kanyerezi of MMAKS cannot be legal counsels of Crane Bank Limited (In receivership) and Bank of Uganda because in so acting they violate the advocate-client relationship and advocates (Professional conduct) regulations.

He said both counsels were his lawyers before undertaking BoU legal jobs and in so doing they used to work hand in hand with Crane Bank executive directors through consultations, advises among others.

Sudhir further declared that the two lawyers are potential witnesses in his case thus urging court to bar them from representing their clients.
