As Uganda today joins the rest of the world to mark the international day to impunity for crimes against journalists, government is urged to bring to book all those implicated in attacking journalists.
The international day commemorated every 2nd November represents an opportunity to raise awareness on the issue of impunity for attacks and crimes against journalists all over the world.
The Director media freedom and development UNESCO,Guy Berger says such attacks of impunity if not checked would umdermine the rights and freedoms of journalists.He further said they would affect the public’s confidence in the government’s ability to protect them.
According to UNESCO,in the passed decade more than 800 journalists have been killed for bringing news and information to the public and 9 out 10 cases,killers go unpunished.
