The government is coming up with a number of measures to help implement the national housing policy.
The policy launched early last month by the prime minister Ruhakana Rugunda during celebrations to mark world habitat day would provide a frame work to promote construction ,upgrading, repair and maintaining housing for all as well guide through real estate development in the country.
Now the state minister for housing, Dr Chris Baryomunsi says one of the measures being undertaken to ensure implementation is setting up a mortgage facility and also reducing taxes on construction materials .He is optimistic that with the reduced prices for construction materials,more people will be able to put up decent structures
“one of the challenges we have in the country is that houses are expensive,so we are exploring to see how we can male construction materials are much cheaper and we are addressing this to examine the tax to see whether we can reduce the taxes for some of these building materials like cement,roofing materials to see that the cost of these materials can enable Ugandans to afford these materials to put up better houses.” Said Baryomunsi.
