The state minister fot Trade, Kafabusa Werikhe Michael has said the government plans to increase taxes on imported goods, a move aimed at promoting market for local goods such as leather, textile and timber.
“Government is ready to give out loans at avery feasible interest rate to enable local manufacturers produce goods which shall replace the imported ones.”
While addressing a state of nation early this year, President Museveni told importers its high time to stop making Uganda a dumping ground.
So I think this is one of the moves taken to fulfill Museveni’s wish of increasing production locally.
