The government has pledged to continue supporting the people of Isingiro district in Western Uganda with relief supplies until they recover from the prolonged drought.

This follows food shortage that resulted from drought which threatens the lives of many people in Isingiro. At least three deaths have been reported so far in the recent weeks.

The prime minister, Dr Ruhakana Rugunda has advised people of Bukangaso county which is the most affected area to plant food crops that are drought resistant.

“In Isingiro there has been a problem of food shortage because of extended period of drought, Minister Musa Ecweru, members of Parliament and other political leaders have been to the area, they delivered some food to the people in Isingiro and they are mobilizing for some more,” said Rugunda.

“I advise the people of Isingiro to take advantage of the rains which are now available and plant crops that yield very quickly so that we can overcome this problem of famine and starvation,” he added.
