The government has asked World Bank to lift the ban on funding to Uganda.
In September this year, the World Bank suspended all new lendings to Uganda as it reviews the progress of the projects worth about shs8 trillion. The world Bank said it would withhold all future funding until the issues of currently pledging undergoing projects were rectified.
Among the outstanding performance issues the bank raised were delays in project execution, weakness in safeguard monitoring and enforcement and poor absorption of funds.
The minister for finance,Matia Kasaija says the world Bank should lift the ban to enable the country get funding for the construction of Mbale- Tororo road which is going to transport heavy equipments to be used in oil exploitation.
“The suspension must be lifted particularly on two grounds. One the road of Tororo- Mbale,we want to strengthen that road because the heavy equipments for oil will pass through that road” said Kasaija.
