The government has ordered for the cancellation of a land title belonging to city businessman John Sebalamu over fraud.
The directive was made by Betty Amongi, minister for lands, housing and urban planning following allegations that the tycoon acquired the land title from former chairperson of the lands board Mayanja Nkangi in a record time of 15 minutes in 2012.
Parliamentary committee on natural resources unearthed the fraud while tracking the illegal sand mining in Lwera on Masaka Road.
Thomas Tayebwa, MP Ruhinda north said Mayanja Nkagi changed the land lease to a title in his names within six days and transferred the land title to John Sebalamu’s names within 15 minutes only.
However, officials from the lands ministry disowned the land title saying they don’t know about it in that its a forgery.
“Section 44 sub section 4 of the land act of 1998 clearly stipulates that no lease or titles are supposed to be issued on wetlands and therefore for districts or land boards to issue leases on that its illegal and therefore if they have done so it is because of ignorance or collusion with those people who are mining sand in Lwera,” Amongi said.
