Government has revealed that it needs Shs 12 billion to contain the delay of Bird flu which was detected recently.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, the epidemic may take an average of six months to contain provided it doesn’t spread to other parts of the country.

Early this year, the ministry of Agriculture received reports from Uganda Wildlife Education Centre ( UWEC) indicating mass death of wild birds seen by fishermen at Lutembe beach at the shores of Lake Victoria near Entebbe and Masaka district respectively.

The ministry immediately sent a team to investigate the mass bird death together with a team from government chemist and UWEC, unfortunately, the results turned out positive. The officials detected a very serious disease known as Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) that affects both humans and animals.

Countries like Kenya and Rwanda have already banned poultry products from Uganda after a confirmed outbreak of the infection until situation normalizes.
