President Museveni on Monday fired Gen Katumba Wamala as Chief of Defence Forces together with his deputy Charles Angina, and transferred a host of other top commanders.

Gen Wamala has been appointed State minister for Works in a sweeping military reshuffle which has seen the young guard take full control of the military. Wamala was the remaining veteran representing the generation that joined Yoweri Museveni in the early days of his struggle to capture power. Museveni’s son Muhoozi Kainerugaba is now a presidential advisor in charge of operations.

The military is in the hands of Maj Gen David Muhoozi who was the Lands Forces commander and now promoted to full General.

Former Museveni bodyguard Maj Gen Mbadi is now the Deputy Chief of Defence Forces while Special Forces Command is under Lt Col Don Nabaasa who has been promoted to colonel. From Kasese conflicts Brig Elwelu Peter has been promoted to Lands forces and made major general.

Lt Gen Charles Angina is sacked from deputy CDF to Deputy commander Operation Wealth Creation.

Chief of Military Intelligence Brigadier Charles Bakahumura has been transferred to be Chief of Logistics and Engineering and replaced by Lt Col Abel Kandiho while Brig Sabiiti Mugyenyi has been appointed Commander Air Defence.
