Uganda’s strongest opposition party, Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) has condemned the government for the uncalled for arrest of the Omusinga wa Rwenzururu, Wesley Mumbere on Sunday.
Mumbere was arrested by the state following clashes which elapsed in Kasese town leaving 55 people dead. The state says the king may be behind the ongoing conflicts in the Rwenzori region.
While at their regional sensitization campaigns in Jinja today, FDC officials said the action which the government took to arrest Mumbere was an inhuman treatment arguing President Yoweri Museveni to take responsibility for the Kasese clashes.
Buhweju mp, Francis Mwijukye said as FDC members they cannot take pride in a situation where the state is fighting its own people.
“We stand with the people of Kasese in this difficult time,” said Mugisha Muntu the party president.
