Stand up comedian Alex Muhangi has accepted being responsible for giving out the location of Bizonto comedy group members to police but has denied doing it on purpose.
Muhangi claims that he was tricked and before he knew it police had already used him to trace the actual location of his colleagues.
This Bizontos were picked from Radio Simba last Friday and put under police custody on allegations that through one of their comedy skits, they attacked top government officials who hail from western Uganda thereby promoting sectarianism.
After being set free on Tuesday, Bizontos narrated what happened, disclosing that they first received a call from Muhangi who asked where they can meet to discuss business, but before they knew it, they had already fell into the police’s trap.
A lot of questions arose following Bizonto’s statement, with some social media gossipers thinking that the Comedy Store CEO knew about everything.
But Muhangi has also narrated his side of story during one of the interview with a local news channel, saying that police tricked him with a juicy job offer that he couldn’t resist, but he knew nothing about the arrest plans.
“Those guys used me but I didn’t know. A man called me and said ‘I am afande Cyrus’, he said he wanted to talk with me and my sons Bizonto. I asked him why? he then said that he has some job for us but wanted to meet us all in person. I then told him that I am not Bizontos manager but if he likes them, the best I can do is to hook him up with them. It was around 8am in the morning,” Muhangi recalls.
He added that this is when he contacted the Bizontos, explained the deal, discussed the meeting place, time and both parties agreed to meet at Cityville ‘a good place located just opposite Radio Simba’.
“I was there at around 9:00am, at around 9:50 Kidomoole called me saying that police had arrested them, I asked him why the police were arresting them. I then disconnected him a called Afande Cyrus, asking him what was going on, he said nothing and just disconnected me. I again called and advised Bizonto to run if they can after realising that the issue had gone worse, I also ran away in fear that I might get arrested to,” Muhangi said.
