As many people were trying to make sense out of singer Edrisa Musuuza aka Eddy Kenzo’s visit to President Museveni, the singer has narrated on why it happened.
Kenzo admitted that he used to speak trash about Museveni’s regime and even branded his government as ‘Volongoto’ in his song, but it so happened because he was ignorant about how things work ‘politically’.
During an interview with NTV’s Mwasuze Mutya show on Friday, Kenzo claimed that things started to change the day he came back from United States of America recently, after winning the African Entertainer Award.
“I had a lot of problems when I came back, my fans who had come to welcome me were arrested, and their families were on my neck demanding me to make their people released. Everything was going on so wrong in my life, I tried to look around and none of my ‘political struggle’ friends came in to support me, I was left all alone,” he said.
Kenzo claimed that because of that desperate moment and pressure, he was forced to lower his ego and begged some high profile people to intervene in his situation, and even promised to do whatever they want from him.
“I was so stuck that I requested some people to help me meet the President, they told me that it might not be easy since I had disrespected him on several occasions, but later I managed to meet him, asked for forgiveness and he forgave me,” he said.
The singer said that during the meeting, he was able to realize that the statements he made through his ‘Volongoto’ song were too disrespectful.
“I was shaking the moment I reached in front of the President, Truth is he was hated by my messages. He even asked me if I wasn’t taught manners for at his age, he is worth to be my father. He even taught me that if one wants something, he needs to request it politely, but not through threats.”
Kenzo accepts that he changed the way he sees things the moment he met the President, and also advised his fellows with whom he was fighting for change, to request power with politeness, and respect, but violence and pressure will not work.
