This year’s annual Art and Culture Festival will be linking culture to tourism.
Organised by Uganda National Cultural Centre (UNCC), the festival will run from 1-3 November, 2019 at the National Theatre under the theme, “Culture for sustainable tourism”.
It is aimed at showcasing Ugandan rich cultural diversity thus creating opportunities for community development through cultural tourism.
Addressing journalists on Monday in Kampala, Francis Peter Ojede, the UNCC Executive Director said the second edition of the fest will bring together all arts and culture professionals, lovers and stakeholders who will showcase and celebrate their rich cultures.
“The festival will also create opportunities for women and youth to gain employment through Cultural Tourism,” said Ojede.
The three days festival will have activities like the Symposium, Performances, Media briefings, Television/Radio talk shows and Exhibitions among others.
“We are expecting both local and international participants. Local participation will include Cultural leaders (Kings and their Prime Ministers), renowned pop artists, Diplomats, cultural performers and renowned speakers. Together with gazetted Cultural Institutions, our team conducted the regional selection in which the best eight traditional groups were selected and art facts to be showcased at the festival identified,” the Executive Director revealed.
“We will exhibit Art facts with the aim of launching our Cultural Museum. From the regions, we collected a number of artifacts which we hope to use for this purpose. Other than that we’ll also have food, paints, and crafts among others. We know that some of you would like to buy some of the crafts, for that matter there will be an open market.”
Tickets will go for Shs5,000 only per day.
