Congolese music is not dead. And that was truly manifested Friday night when revelers, most not yet born before Awilo Longomba staged a concert in Kampala in 1995, stormed the Kampala Serena Hotel to dance to the Soukous tunes of the legend.
He did not disappoint, together with the entire Paris band, took on revelers down memory lane with some of his all-time bangers such as ‘Coupe Bibamba’ and ‘Karoline’, allowing attendees including NRM Secretary General Kasule Lumumba to dance the hundreds who had thronged the venue to reminisce about the good old days as some unleashed dance strokes they had not had to employ since the late 90s.
Revelers stayed on their feet throughout the two and a half hour long show as Awilo delivered an electric performance before he was joined by Eddy Kenzo, Chameleon and Levixone to send the crowd into ecstasy.
The show which was organised by Cents Events and sponsored by Singleton ended at midnight yet even at this time, most of those in attendance still wanted more.
