Death has robbed the hip-hop fraternity of rapper Denis Kalimu Nampeera alias Mulekwa Nampeera.
Close sources reveal that Mulekwa, who has been battling cancer for some time, breathed his last on Wednesday at Kiruddu hospital in Makindye.
He was admitted last month after his condition worsened.
A fast raising hip-hop and luga flow artiste in Uganda, Mulekwa is popularly known for his song ‘Abaana Bano’, a reply to Fefe Bussi’s diss track ‘Who is Who?’. This is when many hip-hop fans started appreciating him, especially for his word play. His other songs include Byawongo, Abenganda among others.
News of his death was confirmed by his close friend and rapper St Nelly-Sade; “Sad News for UG Hip-Hop! Rest in Paradise Mulekwa, May the almighty Lord judge your soul with mercy.
On November 7, Nampeera posted on Facebook urging his fans to pray for him because his condition had gone worse.
“Pray for me Abenganda, Anti Abaana Bano wena babulirira ate neba nsidikira ebyawongo, I can’t even shot our part 3 video, I AM DOWN AND KINDLY REQUEST FOR YOUR PRAYERS. BUT WHY do they fear competition,” Mulekwa, who grew up in the slums of Bwaise Kawempe, posted. Details for his burial are not yet communicated but will be updated soon.
Rest in Eternal Peace Mulekwa Nampeera
