Sandra Nankoma is barely known outside her household. Well, literally since her nomination for Best East African Female Artiste at the recently concluded AFRIMAs came as a surprise.
Many barely expected her to win, even after the nomination meant she was a third of nominated Ugandan artistes after Bebe Cool and Irene Namatovu.
Well, she did not get win the regional female artiste gong she had been nominated for but managed to bag ‘Best Female Artiste in African Inspiration Music’ award.
Now she has hit back at local radio and TV channels for not playing her music and not giving her a proper recognition she deserves.
After the win, the ‘Kaddugala’ hit maker decided to speak for other ‘voiceless’ artistes, especially those who sing Afro Soul and never receive airplays on radio and TV stations.
“If I’m denied airplay it’s alright. I’ll use other means to spread the positive energy of fitting in your own skin,” she said.
She also thanked everyone who voted and supported her towards attaining this award, and advised her fellow black skinned girls to not bleach.
“Do not be ashamed of your skin color and say ‘no to bleaching’,” she said.
