Tshaka Mayanja is set to retire from organising events after the 11th edition of the Jazz Safari on December 1.
The said show at Munyonyo Speke Resort will feature American singer Genuine.
Although it will be his last, Tshaka says feels great joy and privilege that he has added a couple of bricks to the music institution and pan Africanism before retiring.
“After 33 years of organising and promoting music concerts (I started at the age of 13), this will be my last. It’s been a long and sometimes atrocious journey, but it’s been such an honor and pleasure to serve this nation,” Mayanja posted on his facebook timeline.
Jazz Safari is an annual musical events that brings together musicians and lovers of the genre. It has featured international acts like Yola Semedo, Marcus Anderson, Richard Bona, Joe Thomas, Keith Sweat, Karyn Whyte among others.
Mayanja, an acclaimed reggae artiste, Jazz guitarist, song writer, promoter is also famous for mentoring many up and coming artistes.
The 12 songs off the internationally acclaimed album ‘Dark Chocolate’ were just a drop in the ocean considering he claims to have released 500 songs in a career a few years short of four decades.
According to Mayanja, his mission was not only to lift Ugandan artistes, but to unite even those whose ancestors were taken into slavery, centuries and bring them back to the source to rejuvenate their spirits. He is so happy that his works are currently visible.
“Like I always testify; it’s All the Grace of the most high and my ancestors through whom I am spiritually guided it annually,” said Tshaka.
