In probably the most candid jab towards Buganda Kingdom, mystery moneybags Bryan White has said there is no way a responsible person like him could have boarded an unworthy boat.
White, also known as Brian Kirumira, says he tries to show the youth a good example and therefore cannot be seen on a boat ‘where people are drinking alcohol.’
He was talking about the ill-fated KPalm boat which capsized on Lake Victoria on Saturday night with 120 revelers on board. These included Buganda Kingdom’s Prince David Wasajja, Namuyimba Ttendo Muteesasira (the head of Lion clan), Hope Mukasa, tycoon Freeman Kiyimba, artiste Iryn Namubiru who survived. The police has so far recovered 31 bodies while several others are missing. Yoweri Musumba – who was on the Kingdom Development Committee – as well as the boat’s owner Templa Bisase and his wife Sheila are among those confirmed dead. Templa is part of the Bisase family – Kabaka Mutebi’s uncles.
According to Asumani Mugenyi, the police director of Operations, officers stopped the boat owners from sailing but they overpowered.
“Sometimes when you are a law enforcement officer and you are faced with a situation of mob justice, you should step back…,”
It is probably from this background that White offered his stinging comments which might not go down well survivors or grieving family members.
Now he is offering Shs100,000 to each member of the diving volunteers for every dead body recovered.
