After three foiled attempts, and finger pointing, the future of the Kyarenga Concert seems brighter. This after the Inspector General of Police ordered the Kampala Metropolitan Police Commander to urgently ‘….provide the required services.’
In a letter dated October 30, and signed by Assuman Mugyenyi, the AIGP in charge of Operation, IGP Martin Ochola says; “Reference made to the above subject matter in relation to the request made by the firebase entertainment to hold the Kyarenga album launch, (Copy of correspondence here attached for case of reference” reads the letter.
“Liase with the organiser and appropriately provide the required services.”
The letter, copied to Bobi Wine follows an announcement by the musician to stage the much anticipated concert at One love Beach Busabaala. The show is scheduled for November 10 and all preparations toward a successful event were underway.
During the announcement, the musician turned politician and regime critic said they were only waiting for a police letter that guarantees security for the show. “I am sure this time round the police will adhere with us because we have already written to the,” Bobi Wine said then.
Kyarenga Concert has had several changes in dates.
The ‘first’ show was scheduled for October 20, but the management of the preferred venue, Namboole Stadium released a letter on social media saying the venue was to be occupied by a wedding. Earlier, on October 13, the venue was unavailable because of a football game between Cranes and Lesotho.
It was then postponed to November 10 but this time Fufa, local football’s governing body said a musical show at the stadium would make it unplayable a week to an Afcon 2019 qualifying game between the Uganda Cranes and visitors Cape Verde’s Crioulos.
After all these changes in date, Bobi Wine says fans should expect a concert like no other, since One Love Beach will be big enough to host all his fans.
Looks like the police have been receiving Bobi Wine’s letters afterall.
