Musician Pallaso Mayanja of the Soma fame recently gave Ugandans a few lessons on patriotism and honouring one’s own while appearing on a show at a leading local radio station.
Pallaso who is one of the more vocal members of the Uganda Musicians Association said the only way Ugandans will see their artistes break boundaries and become big continental acts like Davido is giving them their full support.
This support he said includes giving them priority in concerts, airplay and in all other fora and forms over other artistes on the continent and beyond.
The younger Maayanja who is a brother to Jose Chameleone and Weasel emphasized the fact that as artistes they cannot do so much without the full support of other stake holders in the industry.
He insisted its time every one come on board to promote and support Ugandan music.
Pallaso gave an example of the Nigerian music industry saying as a nation
and with all industry players in the country putting Nigerian music first and giving little or no room to other music from the continent is one of the things that has made their artistes really big and Uganda as a nation should follow suit.
He concluded that no one is going to come from outside and make our music, art and other things made in Uganda popular while we are sidelining them and giving priority to foreign things so lets uplift and not bring down our own.
