Possibly most of us have ever heard about the story of Nodding Syndrome, a deadly disease that greatly affected people in Northern Uganda during and after the Lord Resistance Army (LRA) insurgency.
According to World Health Organization (WHO) reports, this disease affects children between the ages of five and 15 years, causing progressive cognitive, stunted growth and a characteristic nodding of the head.
Putting the reports aside, an edutainment piece about what really happened could have been a good idea, to paint for us a clear picture about the whole scenario, luckily though, there is a group of talented film makers from Gulu, currently ready to take us through the whole story through a movie series.
Film256, a film production company based in Gulu is set to give the general public a detailed information through their movie series dubbed ‘Cost of Agony’, to help people understand the Nodding Syndrome and what really happened in their area during and after the LRA war in Northern Uganda.
However, despite putting this edutainment series in order, Film256 fell short of finances and currently, they need some financial assistance to enable them finish this project.
Fred Ribangakene, an actor in this movie told Watchdog Uganda that this series is aiming at bringing out the untold story about the Nodding Syndrome effect on the people in Northern Uganda and what really happened after the Joseph Kony war.
He however, noted that they don’t have enough equipment needed for shooting this series or money for paying the cast.
Ribangakene says that the amount needed to get the project to a stage they desire is about Shs25 million.
Nevertheless, a well-wisher can contact Martin, the chairperson of this project on 0783429142. Or Stephen, the executive producer of the project on 0773348777.
Alternatively, one can find them in Gulu, Kanyagoga or at Wine garage opposite TAKS Centre where they usually hold their daily meetings.
