Students of Victoria University are training at Uganda’s best hotel facility Speke Resort Munyonyo in different fields of hospitality management.
The university and hotel have a memorandum of understanding where a number of students each year do their industrial training at the international hotel facility for about eight weeks as part of their training course.
Most Ugandan universities struggle to find right placements for their students in order to pass out all round students in theory and practical fields.
Victoria University which is a sister institution of Speke Group of Hotels, are under the Ruparelia group which has interests in education, finance, agriculture, real estate, hospitality among others.
Many students of Victoria University have taken advantage of Ruparelia Group wide family to connect and get hands of experience in their tourism and hotel management courses at degree and diploma level.
“The eight weeks introductory course in hospitality, procurement and general business management at Speke Resort Munyonyo skills the students for the profession,” said Greg Petzer, general manager, Speke Resort Munyonyo.
Students undergoing training at Speke Resort Munyonyo credit the hotel for sharpening their skills.
Derrick Lungajo Luhata says team work and trust were key in the hospitality business.
“it is an opportunity to gain practical skills from a world class hotel. All the theory we learned from the University makes sense when you come here.” Ellora Kalombo added.
