“What’s Brian White doing on a military vessel carrying out a rescue operation?”
That was the question that made rounds after photographer Nicholas Bamulanzeki snapped this photo of the mystery socialite issuing instructions to a combined rescue unit of the police and the army on Lake Victoria.
The team is part of well-wishers, fishermen, locals trying to search for bodies of victims of a Saturday night boat cruise gone wrong.
About 35 bodies have been retrieved while 27 survivors have been identified. The boat, the MV Templa was headed to Mutima Beach with about 120 passengers on board before it capsized.
The unit was under the command of a Uganda People’s Defence Forces Major, only identified as Akoragye.
The said marine vessel on which instructions were being issued is similar to one of those that were commissioned by President Museveni in June.
Bryan White, born Kirumira Bulayini has camped at Mutima Beach since news about the tragedy filtered through.
On Monday, he offered divers Shs100,000 for each body retrieved. That after bashing whoever was on the boat, including Buganda Prince David Wasajja, as irresponsible.
He was also instrumental in organising locals to manually pull the wreckage of the boat, constantly, screaming ‘Pull, Pull’.
A an MV Kalangala crane that was brought late Tuesday to try and lift the boat’s ruins from the deep of the lake was deemed weaker that the local manpower under the command of Whyte.
The question still remains; “What’s Brian White doing on a military vessel carrying out a rescue operation?”
