On Saturday, Little Hands Go Green successfully held Africa’s first ever children Climate change march.
The march which ran under a theme ‘Our environment is our future and our future is our responsibility’ attracted children and teachers from over 30 schools as well as parents.
The record breaking event was aimed at creating awareness of the dangers of climate change and how it can be predominated through planting of trees.
Children walked from City hall to Uganda House, before walking down to Security house and connecting with Parliament Avenue, back to city hall.
After the march, several schools such as Mbuya Parents School, Hillside Primary School Nalya, Mirembe Junior School, Mother Manjeri, Rock View Primary School Tororo among others made presentations regarding environmental conservation.
The CEO of Little Hands Go Green Mr Joseph Masembe said children now understand what it means to lose or plant a tree, through his organization’s activities.
He said walking through Kampala was a statement meant to awaken adults to follow their young ones.
At the same event, National Forestry Authority (NFA) Executive Director Mr. Tom Okello gave out 2,000 tree seedlings of different species to children.
He urged the children to plant the trees he gave out as a way of mitigating the problem of climate change.
KCCA Education Director Ms. Juliet Namuddu Nambi lauded Mr. Masembe and team for coming up with a great initiative which saves nature.
