The borders
Be aware Kenya
My country is shifting
We may soon encroach on your land.
Where the graveyard of my ancestors stood
Now lies a huge mall
Why should I be surprised
The remains of the dead
Matter not
My country is shifting.
I heard the parliament building
Is not big enough
To accomodate a chorus of noise makers
So its relocating to a new building
Am not surprised
My country is shifting.
I went abroad and returned
Just to find the prices had changed
Though my pockets remained the same
Sugar had shifted
At first I was surprised
But remembered
My country is shifting.
The small town I was born
Knew my parents
But today new faces fill its roads
The town cannot recognize its own child
A result of one thing
My country is shifting.
The law changes too
Last year it was a crime
To be idle
Today its a job
I can’t be surprised
My country is shifting.
I read it in the papers
That even age is shifting
Ohh God save us,
If I was twenty yesterday
Tomorrow I may be 15.
Ohh, sorry I had forgotten,
That My country is shifting.
