The oldest political Party in Uganda, Democratic Party has promised to pay shs 500,000 for each goal that will be scored by Uganda Cranes in the African Cup of Nations tournament which is ongoing in Gabon.

While addressing journalists today at the Party Headquarters in Kampala, the party publicity Secretary, Kenneth Paul Kakande said the qualification to the AFCON after a very long period of time is a great achievement and they are ought to support the cause adding that DP has always supported the Uganda Cranes and shall endure doing the same.

“It is indisputable that our team has capacity to put up a very good show and accordingly, we pledge Ushs.500.000 for each and every goal that will be scored by the team in this tournament,” Kakande said.

However, he condemned government for incompetence since it failed to broadcast the tournament through the national Broadcaster, UBC especially when the country has returned to AFCON tournament after 39 years.

“ It however is disturbing and a glaring sign of government incompetence that the time when the country has returned to the AFCON tournament is when the National Broadcaster UBC has failed to relay the tournament to Ugandans. It’s a big shame!” Kakande stated.

On the other hand, he criticized President Yoweri Museveni for appointing almost Westerners only in the big positions in the army following the recent UPDF reshuffle.

“The placing of one region in command positions in this reshuffle also takes away the lie that the initial historical formation of the original NRA was for the most Western dominated and thus their being all over the place. But even the new blood is proving to be favouring the same region with the Elwerus just being used to do the donkey work and dirty jobs,” Kakande noted.
