A district chairman has ordered for the confiscation of machines used for betting saying they are impoverishing the residents.
Joseph Opit Okojo, the LC5 chairman Serere district confiscated machines under what he dubbed as ‘Operation Towa Popcorn investors’.
“These slot machines licensed by Uganda Investment Authority as investment in the country are steadily and surely killing our economy. Our parliament should save the nation. They are taking away every sh500 coin and making the youth idle. We have eliminated them in Serere for the good of our people”, said Mr Opit.
The exercise targeted Asian national who had set up shops where youth went to play games to win.
