After the exit of Brian Gouldie, MTN Uganda has turned to Airtel for a new chief executive to lead Uganda’s franchise.
The new CEO is Wim Vanhelleputte, who has been the managing director of Airtel in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Vanhelleputte has been on the job in Kinshasa for hardly five months.
However, Vanhelleputte is not new to MTN as he has previously worked for the South African telecom giant in Cote d’Ivoire.
The new MTN boss joined the Ugandan market which at present is competitive and MTN’s dominance is threatened by new comers in the data and mobile money business.
