Kampala, 16th August 2024: Airtel Mobile Commerce Uganda Limited, a provider of affordable and secure financial services in Uganda has so far awarded Ugx 100 million to Ugandans in the first phase of the ongoing nationwide Airtel Vroomula Amajja campaign, aimed at promoting cashless transactions and enhancing digital financial services.

The campaign was launched recently, to reward Ugandans using Airtel Money with prizes, including; a grand prize of a new Toyota RAV4 Hybrid sports utility vehicle, motorbikes and e-money. Last week, 18 lucky Ugandans walked away with new motorbikes each while others won other prizes including; Airtel Money.

Among the motorbike winners were Julius Ogeimungu from Zombo District, Omara Godfrey from Abim District, Wanyana Betina, a resident of Nsambya in Kampala District, and Obbo Godfrey, a resident of Kifumba in Kampala District.

While handing over the motorbikes to the first 18 winners, Japhet Aritho, Managing Director of Airtel Uganda Mobile Commerce Uganda Limited, said, “We are excited to reward our first batch of customers and agents who have been making endless transactions with Airtel Money since we launched our Vroomula Amajja campaign, and they have won e-cash prizes as well as motorbikes.”

He added “At Airtel, we take pride in giving Ugandans a Reason to Imagine. Through this campaign, we aim to change lives, fuel dreams, power ambitions, and drive the nation towards a cashless future where every transaction opens a world of possibilities.

Ogeimungu, one of the winners, shared his disbelief upon receiving the news. “I was at my construction site when I got a call informing me that I had won a motorbike in the Vroomula Amajja promotion, but I couldn’t believe it until a second person confirmed it. After cross-checking the number, I realized it was true. At that moment, I felt my life had changed completely.”

Similarly, Wanyana recounted her experience, initially thinking the call was a scam. “When I received the call, I thought it was one of those usual conmen trying to scam me, so I told my sister, who advised me to ignore it and go to work. However, the thought kept bothering me, so on my way to work, I stopped by an Airtel shop to consult. They confirmed that the campaign was indeed real, and I jumped with excitement, knowing it was true that I had won a boda-boda.”

Vroomula Amajja campaign, which will run for three months, is expected to reward more people. Airtel Money customers, agents, and businesses using Airtel Pay merchant codes are eligible to win prizes by simply carrying out any Airtel Money transaction. This automatically enters them into daily, weekly, and monthly draws.

“Airtel offers affordable, secure, and convenient mobile financial services that can be conducted across borders. Through this campaign, we aim to enhance digital financial services by motivating our customers to embrace cashless transactions. We want to provide them with a superior experience for utility payments (water, electricity, Pay TV), school fees payments, and cross-border money transfers.” Aritho concluded.

As the campaign continues to gain traction and excite customers to join, winners will be contacted only by the verified Airtel number 0200100100.
