The former Forum for Democratic Change (FDC) presidential candidate, Dr Kizza Besigye has pinned the ruling party, NRM for turning the Uganda police into a party’s state.
While addressing the people of Busoga in Jinja during the party’s regional sensitization campaigns, Besigye said the government has done more harm than good in spoiling the police’s credibility in the eyes of Ugandans. He said the once independent police established before the incumbent government was slowly captured by President Yoweri Museveni until it was re- established as an NRM occupation.
“The Police, which was independent state institution that NRA found established, was slowly captured and it has also been turned into an NRM state. A police force that had professional officers got an NRM cadre as commandant and he completely changed the forces’ recruitment and training manual. Now, police officers are recruited and trained with the main objective of defending the NRM,” Defiant Besigye asserted.
He further tasked his supporters to justify means to end what he called political madness forced onto them by Museveni.
“We must now agree how to end Museveni dictatorship. Once we agree that Mr. Museveni must be forced out, because dictators don’t surrender power- they get forced out of power, then we must agree on the method of pushing him out,” He said.
