Dr Kizza Besigye has expressed his admiration for Uganda’s legendary dictator Idi Amin Dada. Mr Besigye says his admiration for the late Uganda leader is based on the fact that the man was not a liar.
While speaking at the Annual Jurist Conference (AJC) today held in Durban South Africa, the former presidential candidate, Dr Kizza Besigye said he respects Former president of Uganda Idi Amin Dada for having declared himself life president instead of pretending to be democratic.
Besigye told his audience that the government of Uganda tortures him not because it wants to harm him but to create fear among Ugandans in order not to revolt against President Museveni’s government.
“I respect Idi Amin for having declared himself life president instead of pretending to be democratic. Idi Amin did bad things, but he also did some good things. The main intention of the violations against me is not essentially to harm me, but to cause fear among the people,” Besigye said.
Annual Jurists Conference (AJC)’s main objective is to deliberate on emerging legal and human rights trends affecting the Continent and this year’s theme is “State of Democracy and Transitions in Africa: Addressing the Regression”.
