Former Forum for Democratic Change presidential candidate, Dr. Kizza Besigye has called for the immediate opening of Makerere university giving the government a 10 day ultimatum.
While addressing journalists at his home in Kasangati, Besigye said if the university is not opened within 10 days, they will call for a national protest.
He also called on the Parliament to get involved in the issue of appropriating funds so that lecturers are paid to return to work.
Makerere university was closed on 1st November after President Yoweri Museveni passed a directive ordering the immediate closure of the university due to rampant strikes by students who were protesting against the lecturers refusal to teach them.
The lecturers had laid down tools in the previous week due to the nonpayment of their incentives arrears by the university council amounting to shs28 billion.
