The newly appointed ministry of health permanent secretary Dr Diana Atwine has pledged to strengthen proper financial management in the ministry.
Atwine is one of the several technocrats whose appointment was announced by President Yoweri Museveni yesterday. She replaces Dr Asuman Lukwago who was moved to the Education service commission.
According to Atwine, there have been issues in the accountability, misuse and diversion of funds. She however admits that the position assigned to her comes with a big challenge adding that she is ready to put in adequate effort to improve the over roll performance of the ministry.
“There are areas which need to be focused on which are diversion, misuse where you come find infrastructure they have built and its not worth the money, retirement issues, people who divert our money to do other things so we have not been doing well in the eyes of the public”Atwine said.
Prior to her appointment as a health ministry permanent secretary,Atwine was the Director at the Health Monitoring Unit of State House since 2009.
