Experts are calling for the address of root causes of migration which will be the best solution to address the challenges imposed to the continent.
According to The Intergovernmental Authority on Development (IGAD) regional migration coordinator, Carol Njuki, some of the leading factors contributing to migration are conflicts, disasters and search for jobs among others.
In the past few years, there have been mass movement of people from within Eastern Africa, the entire Africa continent and other parts of the world for various reasons. Njuki says, the intergovernmental agency for development is working on addressing these issues in its various forms.
“Addressing root causes we see it as the solution instead of firefighting and countries in the IGAD are working really hard to address some of the conflicts that have taken over in the home,” says Njuki.
“IGAD is engaged in Somalia, mediation process in South Sudan so we are addressing conflicts as a root cause of displacement of people in Africa,” she added.
