Former Resident District Commissioners (RDCs) together with their deputies have on Monday petitioned the Speaker of Parliament Rebecca Kadaga over their retirement benefits.
The RDCs are concerned that as senior civil servants appointed by the President, when they retire, they go home with nothing.
Handing over their petition to the Speaker at Parliament, the RDCs requested that a law in which former RDCs and their Deputies will be facilitated be enacted.
“That the legal instrument have a retroactive effect and that it streamlines exit of RDCs to provide ample notice of at least 6 months of impending termination,” they urged.
On her part, the Speaker thanked the RDCs for bringing stability and order in most parts of Uganda. She also promised that their issues will be worked on.
“The RDCs raise good policy issues. There is need to address RDCs benefits and tenure. I’ll forward the petition to the Committee of Presidential Affairs for action and also bring it to the attention of Parliament.”
