Lt Gen Henry Tumukunde’s strong ally also Tororo North Member of Parliament Annet Nyakecho has revealed that she regrets ever supporting the removal of age limit that would see President Yoweri Museveni rule Uganda even when he is above 75 years of age.
Nyakecho who was on Wednesday dropped from her role as chairperson Parliament’s Information ,Communication and Technology Committee (ICT) by the government Chief Whip Ruth Nankabirwa, said the ruling party- NRM good at obstructing democratic practices as well as making enemies with people who have differing political ideologies.
Although she came into parliament as an independent lawmaker, Nyakecho has been NRM leaning until when she started hobnobbing with ex-security minister Gen Tumukunde who declared his intentions to challenge President Yoweri Museveni in the 2021 general elections.
After being dropped from the committee leadership, Nyakecho said that top leaders in the NRM party dropped her because she was supporting Gen Tumukunde.
“I supported the removal of the age limit, but it was a mistake, because I didn’t do it on my own but to please my top bosses, however, if someone realizes his/her mistake, they can be forgiven. Everyday I regret that mistake i committed. That’s why now I’m in opposition to rectify my mistakes and I will support Gen Tumukunde because it’s time to lead Uganda in a straight path,” she said.
