The Uganda Poor Youth Movement General Secretary has warned Ibrahim Kasozi, the Deputy Chairperson of the Parliament’s Committee on Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises (Cosase) against using his influence to abuse the committee privileges.
Ben Ssebuguzi’s caution follows allegations that Kasozi who is also a Member of Parliament for Makindye East was planning to extort money from businessman Sudhir Ruparelia whom he had summoned to appear before Cosase sub-committee.
The committee said Sudhir has property obtained from the Departed Asians Properties Custodian Board (DAPCB). However, the tycoon has said now and again that he never bought any property from the board.
In his open letter, Ssebuguzi says it is in order for Kasozi to use his authority to torment an investor who has dedicated all his life in the development of Uganda.
“We got wind of such news of trying to torment an investor who has dedicated all his life to put up companies that pay huge taxes to our treasury, but also employ thousands of youths, we decided to write our displeasure down. Recently Hon. Zaake Francis of Mityana Municipality is reported to have badly confronted the Vice Chancellor of MUK, Prof. B. Nawangwe during and after the meeting in parliament. It is unfortunate that some sections of members of opposition are turning the August House into a torture chamber,” said Ssebuguzi.
He added that as Uganda Poor Youth Movement, they think there must be something done to deter such behaviors.
“Rule 75(2) of the Rules of Procedure of Parliament gives the Speaker powers to suspend Hon. Ibrahim Kasozi form service of the house if he doesn’t write an expression of regret. Furthermore rule 77, the Rules, Privileges and Disciplinary Committee can make Hon. Ibrahim Kasozi make an apology in seven days in order to keep the image and reputation of Parliament. It will set a bad precedent if our own Members of Parliament start to act improperly on people who we dearly cherish in the development of our country.”

HON IBRAHIM KASOZI BIRIBAWA SHOULD KEEP THE DECORUM OF PARLIAMENT
It has been reported in the media that Hon. Ibrahim Kasozi a member of parliament for Makindye east is reported to be planning to use his influence in the COSASE Committee to arrest and embarrass Dr. Sudhir Reparelia, Director Ruparelia Group when he appears before the Committee to answer queries of one of his properties which he legally owned from the Departed Asians Properties Board.
