The Alliance for National Transformation – ANT party has disassociated itself from a petition that was recently launched by the ‘People’s Government’ seeking to drag President Yoweri Museveni to the International Criminal Court-ICC.
The People’s Government led by the former president of Forum for Democratic Change-FDC Dr Kizza Besigye, recently started collecting atlest two million signatures to drag Museveni to the ICC, accusing him of human rights abuse.
They cited the continued brutality against members of the opposition, attacking of the Omusinga Charles Wesley Mumbere of Rwenzururu Kingdom which led to the death of hundreds of people, the invasion of Parliament by the army during the age limit debate and the recent kidnaps and murders in the country.
However, ANT founder Rtd.maj. Gen Gregory Mugisha Muntu, while addressing atleast 350 party members from Kigezi sub region in Kabale town on Monday said dragging Museveni to the ICC will not directly lead to a change of government, a common mission of all the opposition party members in Uganda.
“We as ANT are not part of it as an organisation but members of ANT as individuals can do whatever they want. Those who want can sign, those who don’t care to sign may ignore so I have no quarrel with what FDC and the peoples government are doing and we believe that each group which involved in the struggle for change in the country can carry out different initiatives and do whatever they believe is going to advance the struggle for not only taking power but also changing the country,” Muntu was quoted saying.
