Police in Kisoro is investigating circumstances under which two women were allegedly swept away by landslides to the Democratic Republic of Congo, where they are believed to be dead.
It’s alleged that on Wedneaday at around 2pm while in Bikokora village, Nteko parish, Nyabwishenya sub county, three women were weeding millet until heavy rains that resulted into landslides swept two of them away.
The heavy down pour reportedly lasted for at least three hours.
The two women; Oliver Nyiramutuzo, and Flora Nyamishana, were swept away to DRC through River Rwafi and the are still missing up to date.
Mr. George Bahinyiza, LC5 councilor Nyabwishenya Sub County speaking to watchdog Uganda said other victim Silvia Balitonda was rescued and rushed to Nteko health center along with a three month old baby, daughter to Nyamishana.
The hunt for the two women missing is still on.
This case has been registered at Kisoro police under file number SD 63/13/11/2019.
