Missing Makerere University guild president Julius Kateregga has been found.
Kateregga who has been missing for over three days, was on Friday evening dumped in Makerere Kikoni near the university.
He said he was tortured by his kidnappers who warned him to stop staging any form of strike or else they will deal with him again.
Nevertheless, Kateregga revealed that he will bow to threats and that they will continue to demonstrate until the 15 per cent tuition increment decision is rescinded.
The guild president was kidnapped on Wednesday minutes after leaving NBS TV.
He had been hosted on the station’s Morning Breeze show where he discussed a number of issues concerning the escalating tensions at the oldest and biggest university in the country. He was hosted along with the university’s publicist Dr Muhammad Kiggundu.
During the show, Kateregga pinned Dr Eria Hisali and Gordon Murangira of fanning the strike and refusing to dialogue with the students.
Hisali is the Principal of the College of Business and Management Sciences, Makerere University while Murangira is the Personal Assistant to the Vice Chancellor Barnabas Nawangwe.
The duo are also accused of switching off security lights and cameras on Thursday night and allegedly allowing into university premises military personnel who brutalized students in their halls of residence.
On his part, Dr Kiggundu promised that the university management would amicably work with the students’ guild to ensure that the situation returns back to normal.
However, after the show, Kateregga was allegedly trailed by yet to be identified people before they kidnapped him.
Since last week, Makerere University students have been protesting against the 15 per cent tuition increment. They demand that it should be scrapped on grounds that it is unfair to privately sponsored students.
