President Yoweri Museveni has gifted gold medalist Joshua Kiprui Cheptegei with a brand new Mitsubishi double cabin pickup.
The president was fulfilling his promise he made to Cheptegei following his outstanding performance during the 2018 Commonwealth Games in Gold Coast, Australia.
Cheptegei won the men’s 5000m final, clinching gold and Uganda’s first medal at the particular competition.
He beat Mohammed Ahmed of Canada (13:52.78) and Kenya’s Edward Pingua Zakayo (13:54.06), who settled for silver and bronze, respectively.
While receiving the car at State House Entebbe, the excited athlete revealed, “The car will help me enhance my training performance as it comes just 10 months to the 2020 Tokyo Olympic Games. I intend to win another glory for the country.”
The car was officially handed over by State House Sports Officer Norah Nassimbwa.
Early this month, Cheptegei again made Uganda proud when he won a gold medal at the World Athletics Championship in Doha, Qatar.
He won the men’s 10,000 metres world title with the second fastest ever time in the championships history of 26min 48.36 sec thus becoming the first Ugandan to win the title.
