The Aviation Police on Tuesday rescued 12 girls who were being trafficked to Saudi Arabia.
The victims who were found in the Departure Lounge, Entebbe International Airport were scheduled to work as house maids.
According to Uganda Police Spokesperson Fred Enanga, the girls, who were all dressed in Uniforms (white T-shirts with Arabic writings) purporting to be a registered company where as not.
“Preliminary findings indicate that this is a ghost company. The 12 girls were all on one way ticket aboard Emirates (Fly Emirates),” he said.
“On interviewing the victims, it was discovered that they were recruited by Awali Umaru and some other individual only identified as Yasin. The two are said to be businessmen in Kampala who had briefed the girls from Freedom City, before departing to the airport in one taxi.”
Enanga further revealed that a general inquiry file was opened to investigate circumstances under which the girls were recruited, allegedly from different parts of the country.
“We suspect that this could be a case of Human trafficking. The girls are currently being held at Aviation Police in Entebbe, for their own safety as investigations continue.”
