Uganda Police in Kigezi have arrested an armed robber who kidnapped and robbed a trader in Kabale district of Shs10 million.
The suspect was arrested on Wednesday.
Upon interrogation, the thief, Bahram Twebaze, 31 who was wearing a Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) uniform claimed that he was not a soldier and that the attire belongs to his brother who is serving the army in Somalia.
It’s alleged that on Independence Day October, 9, 2019, at around 12:30pm, while at Mayengo along Katuna-Kabale Road, unknown armed people with a pistol, traveling in a pajero , kidnapped Semwogerere Kijwengye, a money changer at Katuna border and drove him in his own vehicle registration number UBE 981F Lexus white in color.
According to the Kigezi region Police spokesperson Elly Maate, police officers were alerted and immediately they deployed at all access roads within the region until they intercepted the kidnappers at Kisizi hospital.
After a brief scuffle, police managed to arrest one of the four kidnappers, who was dressed in full army uniform, although the ones who escaped were putting on civilian clothes.
Fortunately, the victim was still alive but told police that the kidnappers had robbed his money totaling to over Shs10 million.
This case has been registered at Katuna Police post under file number CRR 85/2019.
